Fluted Resin Wall Light Sorel

Fluting is an old trick and it still works: parallel ridges catch light along their edges and put a shadow in every groove. This fluted wall light uses that on a small scale, so a plain wall gains texture as well as light.

Texture First, Then Light

The body is a compact fluted block, open at the top and the bottom, so the beam leaves in two directions and washes the wall above and below rather than throwing light into the room. That makes it comfortable at close quarters: beside a bed, in a hallway, at the turn of a stair. Because the fitting is only 16.5 cm tall it does not dominate a narrow wall, and a run of three down a corridor reads as rhythm rather than clutter. The ridged surface is where the character sits, and it shows most strongly when the fitting is lit and the grooves fill with shadow. Three finishes: white to disappear into plaster, grey to sit quietly against a painted wall, black for contrast.
