Ceiling Lights

A ceiling light is the first decision a room makes. Before the paint colour is chosen, before the furniture is placed, the overhead source sets the terms: how light reads on the walls, how a space feels at eight in the morning versus eight at night, whether a room draws you in or holds you at a distance.

Light from above has a particular quality. It gives volume. It sharpens the edges of furniture, softens shadows toward the floor, and determines whether a ceiling feels close or distant. In a lower-ceilinged room, a recessed or flush fitting opens up the plane; in a generous space, a chandelier or sculptural pendant brings the scale back down to feel inhabited.
